Databases Gone Wild

In case you haven’t figured it out yet, I am a confirmed nerd. And what is more interesting to nerd-dom than a database? In doing my research for this site, I’ve come across a number of excellent resources in the form of databases: plants, animals, birds, soils, etc. On this page, I’ll link to those resources and explain what can be gained by perusing the available data.

Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center Plant Database – The University of Texas at Austin
A source for information about plants native to North America. What they look like, what kind of soil they like, how much water they need, etc.
Biota of North America Program
A crowdsourced effort to document the plant species of North America. Super ambitious and seemingly pretty successful. Enjoy
